Desertphile's Historical Documents

Evolution and evolutionary theory. Collected here are historical documents regarding the evolutionary sciences: most of these texts exist no where else on the internet.
Creationism and the psychotic ravings of lunatics of an age past. Here are books, or extracts from books, written over 100 years ago by Creationists. One can see that Creationists' arguments against science and reason have not changed for over a century.
Utah / Mormon Research. These pages hold a few research texts about Utah, Mormons, Brigham Young, Utes, Pah-Utes, etc.

The Indian Question and other historical documents.
The Sazerac Lying Club. This is a digital version of the historical "Americana" work about life in the mining town of Austin, Nevada, in the year 1887. It is very funny!
Arizona as it is. This web page is a two-chapter extract from the book Arizona as it is; or, The coming country published in the year 1877. One chapter is about the American Indians in Arizona; the other chapter is about the ancient ruins [Anasazi; pre-pueblo] in Arizona. The author must be forgiven some of his ignorance, as he was very much a man of his time and culture.
Aboriginal Inhabitants of the Californian Peninsula, "As given by Jacob Baegert, a German Jesuit missionary, who lived there seventeen years during the second half of the last century." Published by the Smithsonian Report for 1863.
Native Mohave When researching my novel "Ten Horses for Snow Hare" I learned a few things about the Mohave "Indians." I plan on writing a few essays on the subject and posting them here, as well as include resources for study.
Nautical History. Round shot, grape shot, and bar shot, oh my! Spars and rigging carried away, leaks between wind and water, the pumps working day-and-night, and four hours of sleep between watches. Rather makes me glad I'm not a 'fore-the-mast seaman in the 1800s.
USA Exploration. I have placed here documents regarding the exploration of the southwest and west United States of America.
Abaddon, and Mahanaim; or, Daemons and guardian angels. By Joseph Frederick Berg (1812-1871). He argued against "spiritism," but he also believed in the Christian gods and other magical beings. I included this .PDF file for fun, but I did not bother to correct the OCR mistakes.
Geology.
